Window and doors can be a source of energy leaks if they are not properly sealed. Don’t let your home’s heat slip out while the cold air creeps in—drafts can be extremely costly and not energy efficient. Prep your windows and doors with weather-stripping before the winter season to reduce leaks. Already weatherized? Check existing caulk for tears or gaps and replace as necessary.
For optimal energy savings, your heating and cooling equipment should be well maintained. Replace the furnace filter once a month, or as recommended by the manufacturer. Visually inspect your vents to ensure they’re open for maximum air flow. Take a vacuum to clean dust and debris off of vents to breathe cleaner air.
